Pottery Taster Workshop with Rae Ceramics

This workshop provides you with a creative space, a place to learn some traditional hand-building pottery skills: "pinching" and "coiling". 

You can expect to create bowls, cups or ornaments by the end of the workshop.  This workshop is mostly about leaving your daily stresses at the door, and instead, entering a creative fun space to play and experiment with clay.  I hope that by the end of this beginners course you will have caught the clay bug, be opening up creatively, and wanting to try more! Who is Rae?

A self-employed potter working from her studio in Lancaster. Rae's also a fully qualified teacher, with hands covered in either clay from her studio, or soil from the allotment. In 2019 Rae survived an unexpected cardiac arrest. Embracing imperfection, trips to the sea and walks in the woods helped her get through this difficult time. Rae's work is inspired by nature, but also by human perseverance and strength.

Rae got into pottery years ago in night classes – a chance to get away from the stress of the world. Pottery became her form of income during the pandemic, when she realised how much other people needed the same escape, she began by offering 500g bags of clay from Holm Café in Lancaster City Centre at cost price, and the rest is history!
