Philosophy

The Rewilding's is on a mission to undo the domestication of human beings. To encourage folk to get out into nature and remind themselves of what they already have. To not underestimate the power of nature and where to find it.

Human rewilding is about learning and relearning our connection with the natural world and ourselves, consciously restoring the balance and going back to older methods and philosophies.

Many of us find ourselves on a continuous journey in search of healing, recovering from ‘too much’ from the abundance we find ourselves presented with, but why? Is it because we don’t reciprocate this abundance, is it because we don’t give gratitude for it? Did we take too much?

It's not unusual to find ourselves in this pattern, in constant pursuit of external ways to 'fix ourselves', seeking endlessly for solutions to outsource problems  and ways to automate life, but we ultimately forget, we instinctively already have our own answers and solutions, with everything we need to live a life of meaning, right here on earth.  I am nature, and you are nature too.

Let’s get back on the right journey, to remembering our origin, our evolution, our ancestors and reconnect with ourselves and the natural world.

Nature Connection

You are nature.

Not apart from nature.

By choosing to deepen your connection with nature you do so with yourself.

You don’t need me to tell you about the positive effects nature has on your mental and physical wellbeing, because  you already knew that. It’s buried deep down in your cells, in your evolutionary DNA and we want to help you reawaken that part of you.

We often assume that because nature does not speak to us verbally that we are not connected to it, but we belong in the same ecosystem and cannot continue to separate ourselves.

Nature is our teacher, our healer, our provider and the source of all life.

Get yourself back in your own natural environment and come and join us outside, and explore our countryside coastal location, follow the bee from plant to plant. Inspect closely the veins running through a leaf, make friends with a tree and watch how she changes throughout the seasons and see how this is mirrored in your own life.

Human Connection & Community

Coming together to gather, and connect with others is critical to our overall wellbeing  in order to thrive and survive, and this is  at the very core of what we do at The Rewilding.

“As far back as we can trace, humans have traveled, hunted, and thrived in social groups, humans who are separated from their tribe often suffered severe consequences. Social groups provide us with an important part of our identity, and more than that, they teach us a set of skills that help us to live our lives. Feeling socially connected, especially in an increasingly isolated world, is more important than ever. The benefits of social connectedness shouldn’t be overlooked.” (Mindwise.org)

We find these moments of connection in friends, families and strangers alike, and they can appear in the most unlikely places at the most needed time, from random acts of kindness, to picking up the phone, sharing food,  or volunteering your time and skills to help someone else.

When we gather intentionally and with purpose we can deepen our relationships, foster meaningful connections and experience great joy. Come and join our tribe of  Wildlings.

Returning to Older Philosophies

Relearning and remembering our ancestral connections. With every generation new norms are created and others lost.

With this, comes a great loss of knowledge and separation to the past. From language extinction, biodiversity extinction, animal extinction, cultural heritage and diversity extinction.

With daily experiences becoming more artificial through automated algorithms who know you better than you know yourself, there has never been a more critical time in our history to resist technology and reconnect with the natural world.

What if the electricity went off tomorrow? Could you light a fire? Would you survive in a world without modern day technology?

We believe in learning basic survival skills, informing ourselves in knowledge of plant and tree identification, where to source food and how to prepare it.

Remembering and learning these skills are part of the journey to threading our connection back together with each other and the land.

Rewilding Your Food Philosophy

As a farming family, food is very important to us. We’re very connected to the land around us and understand the hardworking efforts that go into the production of every mouthful.

This connection to food was stitched in as a young child and connecting food back to the farm and land is something I have always seen as a given. As I’ve grown older, and welcomed friends and strangers alike to our farm, it’s given me great perspective that this is something I took for granted and not the case for the majority of people I know.  The connection to food, long lost in a cold, sterile supermarket shelf with food covered in plastic. No sign of the muddy fields, live animals  or weather worn faces to be seen there.

As the demand for cheap and perfectly shaped food continues to grow, so does intensive agriculture. We must actively educate ourselves and reconnect to our food to understand our British food story and in doing so begin to mend our relationship with our food system and ultimately the land and hands by which it’s grown.

Food is far more than filling an empty space, it’s about the nourishment it gives our bodies in order to thrive and be healthy,  the connection it brings when we come together with others and the enjoyment of the flavours, textures and creativity in experimenting with ingredients.

We believe in incorporating and sharing all aspects into our food, from game preparation, foraging, bushcraft and cooking with the elements using traditional methods, using high welfare, natural and local British produce.

Eye

Using your senses

The five senses we’ve been equipped with can get us in the present moment and connecting with the natural world quicker than you know. Sight, sound, taste, touch and space is how we experience the world first hand, yet we often dull them with booze, TV, processed food and distraction.

Once we consciously begin tuning into these gifts,  we start to notice and see things as if experiencing it for the very first time.Tuning into sounds near and far, inspecting a blade of grass with our gift of vision. We are actively receiving nature into our senses and trust that she will gift us with whatever it is we need and in return we share gratitude and reciprocity.

Gratitude

Life is a gift and it comes in many forms, from the land, waters, skies and beyond.  If we are able to give thanks and also receive thanks then these gifts will continue to nourish and support us.

We take guidance from indigenous communities and their deep connection with the land and reflect and bring to intention the Thanksgiving Address

I grew up on a dairy farm, left home at 18 for university and have been living in some of the most populated cities around the world ever since,  very much the opposite of what it is to live a rewilded, rural life. 13  years on and the homing beacon drew me back. Why?

City life became increasingly confusing and overwhelming, hence, hitting my 30’s and focussing on ‘rewilding’ myself and my lifestyle. Over the years I’ve gotten very clear on my values and this lifestyle I started out with,  fits the bill. I have a lot of gratitude for my upbringing, running wild, making dens and being free-range and feral is what I always knew. I put it down to this freedom I had as a child that made me curious about the world and the passion I developed for nature, travel and culture.

Our family farm business has evolved over the years, and with uncertain times in British agriculture, it continues to do so. The move into renewable energy through anaerobic digestion, and tourism with our holiday cottages, Patty's Barn.

Bridging the gap between the countryside and city life is something I've become increasingly passionate about. Over the past 10 years I've witnessed the increasingly rapid disconnect humans have with the natural world. I'm one of the lucky ones who experienced life pre-mobile phones and computers. Today, I find it hard to wrap my head around how much this is impacting our daily lives, our connection with one another, our planet and the devastating impact it is having to our natural world, on our mental wellbeing, creating a broken 'new normal' for our future generations.

I'm on a mission to rewild my fellow humans and welcome you all along the journey.

My Why

CCC_1855-617.jpg

What makes our location special?

The geography

Join us in the heart of the Lancashire countryside, turn off the main road and all the way to the end of the lane to find us on our spot of rugged coastline.

We're located on the edge of the Morecambe Bay Estuary, a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) and the largest intertidal area in the UK. With this, we welcome over a quarter million migration and wading birds throughout the seasons with incredible views across the salt marshes toward the Irish Sea.

With the tide in tune to the phases of the moon, coming and going,  you can truly enjoy the landscape changing and the wildlife that comes with this.

Out to the north, you can enjoy unbroken views of the Lake District UNESCO World Heritage site and over to the east, The Forest of Bowland AONB, famous not only for its natural beauty but the infamous Pendle Witch Trials and also being the home of Tolkein, the author of Lord of the Rings, who is said to have taken inspiration from the local landscape in his work.

We love our area and are proud of what it offers for those looking to enjoy a variety of nature, wildlife and landscapes. from the sea to hills.
